OPALEVI for Education
A free teaching hospital for your health students
Universities and health schools use the whole of OPALEVI, free, for five years at a time. Each class runs its own clinic or hospital, students take the roles of reception, nurses, doctors and laboratory, and every patient is fictional.
- Free for five years, renewable
- Unlimited classes and accounts
- Fictional patients only
What the programme is
OPALEVI is the program clinics, hospitals and laboratories use every day for visits, appointments, records, laboratory work, billing and reports. Through OPALEVI for Education, a university gets the same program, with every feature, to teach with.
Students learn how a health service actually runs: a patient arriving at reception, a visit recorded by the doctor, a test ordered and verified by the laboratory, a bill, a report — and how the departments pass work between them.
Who can join
- Universities, faculties, colleges and schools that teach medicine, nursing, midwifery, dentistry, pharmacy, laboratory science, health management or health informatics.
- For teaching only: the programme is not for treating real patients.
- A named contact at the institution who signs the agreement and answers for its use.
What is included
- Every feature of OPALEVI and every department, as clinics have them.
- As many classroom clinics or hospitals as the institution has classes, created and managed by the institution itself.
- Unlimited accounts for teachers and students.
- All the languages OPALEVI is written in.
- 5 GB of files per classroom clinic for documents, photographs and imaging studies, more on request.
- Support by e-mail, and an onboarding session for teaching staff on request.
How it works
- Write to us through the contact form, with the institution's name and its contact person.
- We send the programme agreement; the institution signs it.
- The institution registers its first clinic, and we put it on the programme: free, with no trial and nothing to pay.
- The institution's administrator creates a classroom clinic for each class and shares a join link with its students.
- Five years later, the institution renews — as many times as it wants.
Fictional patients only
Every classroom clinic is marked as a teaching hospital on every screen. Its patients are invented by teachers and students, or drawn from OPALEVI's own fictional cases, X-rays, scans and records.
No real person's details may be entered. Messages to patients by WhatsApp or SMS are switched off for classroom clinics, so nothing ever reaches a real telephone.
Questions institutions ask
- Does it ever cost anything?
- No. A classroom clinic is never invoiced and never changes to a paid plan by itself. The programme terms cannot change during the contract without the institution's written agreement.
- Who is responsible for the data?
- The institution is the controller of its staff's and students' account data; OPALEVI processes it on the institution's behalf under the data processing agreement.
- Where is the data kept?
- In data centres in the European Union. The privacy policy names each provider and where it processes data.
- What happens when the contract ends?
- We remind the institution 90, 30 and 7 days before. After the end, the classroom clinics keep working for 30 days, then become read-only; nothing is deleted unless the institution asks.
- Can a class start again each semester?
- Yes. A teacher can clear a classroom clinic's patients and records and keep its departments and settings, and end the semester for the students who are leaving.
- Can our teaching hospital later become a real one?
- A real clinic or hospital registers its own OPALEVI account under the ordinary terms. Classroom clinics stay for teaching.
The documents
The programme terms are the agreement the institution signs; the data processing agreement sets out how OPALEVI handles the data on the institution's behalf. Both can be printed from their pages.
